Dispatching Orders & A Product’s Stock Status

Global homewares for the contemporary home

Home Institute sells items sourced from around the globe often made by specialist manufacturers or crafts people.

We continually work to hold the appropriate level of stock but forecasting is a continual challenge as demand, manufacturers’ lead-times and shipping times vary greatly.

In practice many of the items we sell are made once Home Institute has placed an order with the manufacturer or craftsperson. To achieve fair pricing for both our customers and makers we place bulk orders on regular order cycles. We order from manufacturers for expected delivery between one and 12 months in advance.

Furthermore, using our standard ordering cycles we can also offer our customers some difficult to source products by allowing their order to piggy-back on our ordering cycle.

Consequently, we have developed four stock statuses to best communicate availability.

In Stock

Items that are in stock are dispatched immediately and are subject to our standard delivery timeframes.

For some new products and items on inbound shipments we may offer you the option to pre-order an item. We commonly use this status when we have limited stock arriving. We set the number of pre-order units available to the quantity we are expecting to receive. Expected dispatch dates are visible on the product’s page and amended as we received updated production, shipping and customs clearance information. If we update an expected dispatch date for an item you have pre-ordered, you are automatically notified by email. Once dispatched, pre-ordered items and are subject to our delivery timeframes. Pre-orders are the best way for our customers to secure stock of popular or rare products.

The delivery timeframe for backordered items varies by manufacturers’ lead-time and when your order falls within our ordering cycle. The following backorder timeframes respesent the common breadth of the delivery window by brand. If you order is time sensitive, please contact us for specific guidance as we can provide a specific update on where in the ordering cycle we are at for the product you are interested in. Backorders are the best way for our customers to secure stock from an inbound shipment or from our next ordering cycle.

These products are either discontinued or we are unsure when we will be able to source additional stock. If you have a question about an out of stock product, please contact us
